On
Monday 9th September one of the Fife Council's Social Workers telephoned
a relative of one of the residents in Leslie House in a further attempt
to persuade the relative to move the resident to another care home. It
was the third such telephone call that the relative had received from
the social worker in four days.
On
each occasion, the relative made it clear to the social worker, that the
relative, after having carefully considered the situation, was of the
view that the care facilities at Leslie House met all of the resident's
needs and that to move the resident would be, at best, distressing and
even risky. The relative reminded the social worker that that position
had been made clear and that it wasn't going to change unless there was
some change in the resident's circumstances.
Notwithstanding
the social worker pressed the point and said that arrangements would be
made for a representative form another care home to visit the resident
with a view to arranging for the resident's removal. The relative said
that the social worker could do so, but that the position, vis-à-vis
the resident's removal would not change.
In
the course of trying to persuade the relative to move the resident, the
social worker said that all of the residents would be moving from Leslie
House. In so saying, the social worker was profoundly incorrect. One would
have thought that a social worker, who has at least one client in Leslie
House, would have been well aware of the actual position.
The
actual position is that none of the residents in Leslie House are in the
course of being moved. Neither are any of the relatives actively considering
doing so. Did the social worker get it wrong or did the social worker
deliberately misrepresent the situation with a view, perhaps, to creating
uncertainty in the mind of the relative.
We
will all draw our own conclusions.
